Activists of the Sovereignty Movement hung posters with New Year wishes in a campaign that began in the City of Hevron: :May it be a year of Sovereignty”
Before the eve of the New Year, 5779, activists of the Sovereignty Movement hung posters throughout Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley on which the blessing/call to action was written: “May it be a year of sovereignty”.
Among the many places where the posters were hung was the City of Hevron. The Sovereignty Movement considers it especially important to raise the call for sovereignty in the City of Hevron and this is why: “This is the city where the Kingdom of David began. This is the city where the ancient Jewish settlement began, and it is symbolic of the People of Israel’s return to its birthplace, the heart of the Land, Judea and Samaria. From here too, the call is raised to the government of Israel to take the necessary and practical steps leading to the application of the State of Israel’s sovereignty over all of Judea and Samaria”.
We note that Sovereignty Movement activists were engaged in hanging the posters for several nights. Many of them report that passing drivers honked their car horns in encouragement. “Our call for sovereignty is actually the voice of the People. These posters are an expression of the demand rising from the People to the leadership, to implement the Zionist-Jewish vision of two thousand years of exile, practically and legislatively – the restoration of the People of Israel’s sovereignty over its Land”.
The co-chairwomen of the Sovereignty Movement, Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, add, “We are experiencing an encouraging tailwind from leading diplomats and politicians in the government and from within the coalition. The great value of these posters and declarations is in placing the vision and the diplomatic goal before the People, an act that actually should be carried out by the leaders, but that is not enough. The People expect to see its leaders act in accordance with the vision that they themselves have presented.
We hope that the year 5779 will indeed be a year of practical implementation and legislation of the vision of sovereignty, a year in which the leadership of Israel will have the wisdom to take advantage of the rare diplomatic window of opportunity that has been opened to us. That they will make the Jewish People’s just and ethical position clear to the world and to the People with the call for Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and that they will take the necessary steps that this position calls for. In this way, the new year will indeed be a good year, in the nationalist-diplomatic sense as well”.
