In the absence of Israeli sovereignty, the PA is continuing its gradual and creeping conquest of land in Judea and Samaria with the economic backing of Europe and exploiting the situation with the goal of Arab domination.
The continuing lack of political resolution leads the other side to determine facts on the ground, with the PA placing a special emphasis on Area C, the land that is defined in the Oslo Accords as subject to full Israeli control, for both security and civil matters.
Dalit Halevy, a correspondent from Arutz 7, reported recently on an amount of seven million dollars that the PA received from international sources in order to develop projects in Area C. According to the report, the support was received from the UN agency UNDP, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Austria and it is designated to reinforce what is defined as the "steadfastness of the Palestinian residents". PA Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah noted that 6,000 Palestinians in Area C, and especially the Bedouin residents, will be among those who will benefit from the support. According to him, the monies will be channeled toward the development of the economy, industry, education, tourism, culture and welfare for people with special needs.
Halevy's report comes shortly after another report of hers on a special meeting that was held in the presence of Abu Mazen's deputy, Mahmoud al-Aloul, in which a plan was discussed to expand the Arab control and proprietorship of Area C, which is being energetically promoted by the PA in recent years, determining facts on the ground and the allocation of many resources, both economical and organizational.
In her report, Halevy quotes the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, as saying that Walid Assaf, head of the body named the Group to Fight Against the Wall and Settlement that led the meeting, emphasized, during the discussion, the importance of moving from the phase of strengthening a firm stance to a phase of "expanding and widening into Area C and supplying basic services to the residents, water, electricity, education, health and infrastructure".
According to him, the group's strategy is determined by the direct instructions of the head of the PA, Abu Mazen, and with the full support of the prime minister, Rami Hamdallah.
Here, we make mention of the warnings issued by the Sovereignty Movement regarding the prevailing sense of many groups on the Israeli Right, which is that the approach optimal for Israeli interests is to maintain the existing status quo. The Sovereignty Movement states and proves according to data that while Israel does not promote and implement the application of sovereignty, the PA continues to eat away at any status quo, and quite energetically. There is no Israeli attempt to enforce the law in response to these Arab facts on the ground in Judea and Samaria and this situation works in favor of the PA and its supporters.
"The Palestinians are determining facts on the ground and with characteristic Arab patience are quietly building for themselves a state without any resistance or handshakes, signed documents or luxurious venues", as Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, the co-chairwomen of the Sovereignty Movement have warned and continue to warn. "There is no such thing as the status quo. This is a dangerous and benumbing illusion that is allowing a Palestinian state, with all of its inherent long-range dangers to the State of Israel, to be established under our very noses. This is why we continue to emphasize the urgent necessity for Israeli sovereignty in Judea and Samaria. The sand in the hourglass is running out and along with it, the sand itself, the land, is also disappearing and falling through our hands. The decision must be made as soon as possible. It's either a Palestinian state with all of its existential dangers or sovereignty, while dealing with the complexity inherent in the idea and the vision. Will Israel commit suicide by allowing the establishment of a Palestinian state or will it cope with the localized and solvable headaches inherent in the application of sovereignty?".
