Kapparot (atonement) donation for the Sovereignty movement, for the settlement of the Land of Israel

At the request of the Sovereignty movement, Rabbi Baruch Efrati consulted with rabbis, including Rabbi Avigdor Nevenzal, who strengthened his hands by calling for the transfer of kapparot monies to the Sovereignty movement. Read his letter

The English translation of the letter follows the Hebrew

In honor of the important women who lead the Sovereignty movement over Eretz Yisrael.

I was asked by you whether it is permissible to distribute kaparot (atonement) boxes so that the money will be used to strengthen sovereignty in the Land of Israel, and whether it is permissible to donate from kaparot funds to the Sovereignty Movement.

After reviewing the issue, and after consulting with Rabbi Nevenzal Shlita who agreed, in my humble opinion it should be allowed to redeem atonements for the sovereignty movement, and whoever gives money to this fund, the right of the Land of Israel will stand to his right, for what was said in Deuteronomy 32,43 "He will forgive his Land and His People". Our Sages in Midrash Mishlei explain that the Land of Israel atones for sins. And as the Rashbatz wrote in the Teshuvah - "Since the Teshuvah is an atonement, the aliyah to Eretz Yisrael is added to his right and saves him from sin all his days."

And to define the matter, since it is said in the kaparot that 'these will go to charity', then he will give some of the money of the kaparot to the poor, and the main part he will give to the sovereignty movement. And in this he will keep the commandment to settle in the Land of Israel, about which Sages said that it is considered equivalent to all the commandments of the Torah.

With appreciation of your work,

Rabbi Baruch Efrati
Derech Emuna
Iggud Rabanim Zioni
