We are happy to present you with our Sovereignty bulletin # 37, sent to members and supporters of our Sovereignty Movement. You are invited to read, get updated, send us your comments and join:
Dear friends,
Greetings.
Two tragic events befell the nation this past week, and it has been difficult for all of us. Along with the entire House of Israel we were struck by the brutal murder of Esther Horgan, hy”d, a kind, peace-loving woman who was murdered as Arab terror reached the outskirts of her neighborhood in Tel Menashe in Samaria.
If, for a moment, it seemed to us that Corona had suppressed the attempts of Arab terror to expel us from our Land, this terrible and painful event came to remind us all that there is still a very long way to go until our presence here is so well established that there is no longer any doubt in anyone’s mind that we are here to stay, that just as we succeeded during a hundred years of settlement and Zionism, despite incessant attacks, we will continue to cling to our only Land. The only meaningful response to these terrorists who want to establish a state upon our ruins is the application of Israeli sovereignty in all of Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley. Only in this way will the hope be cut off that terror will expel us from our Land.
Even if everything doesn’t happen at once, it will settle into Arab consciousness, into the world’s consciousness, but first and foremost, into our own consciousness. When we live with the consciousness of sovereignty, we will behave as sovereigns in our Land, we will know how and be able to bring about stability, security and the eradication of terror.
Do not allow whitewashing
The other tragic event that we experienced this week occurred in Binyamin with the death of 17-year-old Ahuvia Sandak, obm, in an accident that occurred after a confrontation between the police and a hilltop youth.
The hilltop youth dedicate its life and its body for the sake of the Land of Israel and our clinging to it, but there are those who have difficulty in accepting it. There are those who do not identify with the burning love for the Land of Israel among the hilltop youths and there are those who see them as an enemy to fight against.
Since this terrible event, the only ones detained in connection with the matter are Ahuvia’s wounded friends. Evidence is increasing that it seems the matter has been whitewashed. Those who seek truth and honesty, those who love the Land and the People of Israel, advocates of human rights and morality, must demand an inquiry to expose the severe circumstances of the event. Such exposure might prevent similar events from occurring in the future.
Here too, the application of the State of Israel’s sovereignty over the entire area, not only as a slogan but in a practical way, will leave the act of settlement in the state’s hands and in the hands of authorities and the youths, who see how the Land is stolen from us without a Zionist response, without a sovereign’s response, would have no need to engage in struggle.
The political sphere reaches a boiling point
Again, the State of Israel is heading for new elections, and as elections go, there is no knowing how it will end, who will be considered the winner and who the loser; who will lead and who will disappear under the mandate threshold; how the next coalition will look and who the ministers will be.
New elections are an opportunity for the national camp to re-mobilize a majority that reflects the will of the People as it arises in every poll, the desire for a nationalist leadership, that loves the Land of Israel, settles the Land of Israel, is connected to the heritage of Israel and its values. The Right camp has been growing among the People, but because of internal disputes, things are not reflected by the leadership and senseless ideas of dividing the county and even dividing Jerusalem are still heard, even from prominent people such as Defense Minister Benny Gantz.
This is why we must mobilize in the few months before the stubborn struggle for every vote, to convince people of the justice of our way, not to allow complacency to overwhelm us, to take advantage of every stage (usually virtually, in the spirit of the Corona restrictions) in order to broaden the circle of supporters and activists for the national camp, and to convey the will of the People, longing for unity and sovereignty, to the leaders of the right-wing parties.
The challenges of Corona and the economy need not obscure the essence of Zionism, in whose name we have returned to the Land of our forefathers, and this essence is the restoration of the People of Israel’s sovereignty in its Land. The leaders of the Right camp must not hide their positions, but must stand strong and proudly and make clear their intentions for the day when they regain the reins of power. And the application of the State of Israel’s sovereignty over the entire Land of Israel must be among these intentions and goals. We will vote for such leaders, we will mobilize and work for these leaders.
To me, sovereignty is…
And this time, we have with us, Member of Knesset Michael Malchieli (Shas):
“For me, sovereignty is the possibility for every Jew to live in security in all parts of the Land of Israel, without fear. Sovereignty is giving Israeli citizens equal rights in all areas of life. Jewish sovereignty is developing spiritual and cultural life in accordance with the traditions of Israel and the Torah of Israel. Not to give Jews in the Land of Israel electricity, water, and basic needs because of bureaucratic problems, does not signify sovereignty, to say the least”.
Remembering, commemorating, saluting and educating
On Thursday of this week we held a ceremony to lay the cornerstone for Geula’s Cabin, a unique facility of remembrance and commemoration in memory of one of the leaders of the Sovereignty Movement in its first years, winner of the Israel Prize, Geula Cohen, obm.
We held the dedication ceremony on the first anniversary of the passing of Geula, who was, for us, an ideological and practical beacon, a teacher and guide through the obstacles of politics and hasbara. The event took place in the presence of her son, Minister of Settlement Tzahi Hanegbi, with blessings by the president of the state and the participation of many public figures, who noted Geula Cohen’s activism and contributions to the State of Israel.
The initiative of Geula’s Cabin will include a visitors’ center in Geula Cohen’s memory, which will have an exhibit of displays telling the story of Geula Cohen’s life, from her days in the Lehi underground to becoming a right-wing leader in Israel, a Zionist library, a hall for screening films documenting Geula Cohen’s life and a special room recreating the broadcast room from which Geula Cohen transmitted Lehi broadcasts.
In a statement that we published before the event, we wrote: “We are in the midst of a severe crisis of leadership, and a difficult period during which we must shine a spotlight on exemplary figures such as Geula Cohen, obm, who expressed, with every step in public life, the story of the State of Israel and her love and dedication to the Land of Israel. Geula Cohen, obm, was part of the small nucleus of the advisory team for the establishment and leadership of the Sovereignty Movement. Geula was for us an example of ardent faith in the future of the People and the Land, of love for the Land of Israel; in her dedicated heart and understanding of the right way to promote historic steps in the public and political arena. Her advice and vision were for us a beacon of leadership, which is so sorely lacking these days”.
The entire People of Israel owes Geula a tremendous debt of honor, appreciation, esteem and commemoration, but not only for the honor of Geula herself. Rather, it is also for the sake of the future generation, the next link in the chain of the Zionist vision, to become familiar with her work and cling to her spirit and her uncompromising love for the homeland.
From the event dedicating the cornerstone we move to the practical phases of building the cabin. The planning, building, maintenance and operation of Geula’s Cabin are expected to incur significant costs. We hereby call upon you, who cherish Geula Cohen’s memory and activity, to join this important project of commemoration and donate to the initiative. You can do so by telephone or by email: [email protected].
