Menahem Begin and the idea of a Palestinian state
And here is what the late prime minister Menahem Begin thought about the idea of a Palestinian state:
Every child in Israel in Migdal Haemek and Tel Aviv in the streets of B’nei Brak. Every woman would be in danger of being hit in the head by a katyusha, just as it sometimes happens in Kiryat Shmona. And he tell me, the German Chancellor? He knows what will bring us security and I do not? The people has entrusted me with its security. This is my sacred duty. And he advises me and all of Europe and the whole world – how to force us to accept a Palestinian state? Why this is a malicious act the likes of which has never been. And where does it come from? From one whose people is responsible for the murder of a third of our people. Six million. Something that had not happened since God created man and man created the Satan. He will give me advice on how to protect our security? He will forsake our blood? He will conduct propaganda in favor of a Palestinian state? So when Mr. Schmidt, chancellor, - please, forgive me, gentlemen – I came from the Underground Resistance against the Nazis. I’m not afraid of anyone. I will tell him the truth to his face. I have no reason to fear. We saw death in front of our eyes every day. So when he says such things will I not answer him? Do I not know what happened to my people? Do I not know what happened to my family? Do I not know what happened to your sisters and brothers? What – do I not know? He, after all of this will tell us to establish a Palestinian state? Meaning, to place the three and a half million Jews in the Land of Israel in danger of death and annihilation? And will I not answer him? So I answered him. Just as necessary, my friends. I do not take back even one word of what I said. And if there are some bleeding hearts who have begun turning up their noses, let them turn up their noses.
